Welcome to 2017 and say goodbye to 2016.

What was your 2016 like?  Did you accomplish those resolutions and goals you had set for yourself 12 months ago?

Did you just not have enough time?

Are you using the “magical phrase I don’t have time” that gives you permission to be a helpless victim to the all-powerful time that is passing you by?

I have heard that excuse daily in this data-driven 24/7/365 world.  We use this excuse to procrastinate and avoid getting things done.

It is a lie that we tell ourselves and others.

The truth is much harder to accept.  Try changing your language and see how it resonates inside your mind.  Instead of saying, “I don’t have enough time” try saying “it is not a priority,” and see how that resonates.

Often that can be a perfectly adequate explanation.  I have time to wash the windows, I just don’t want to.  But other things are harder.

Try it and watch how quickly your perspective shifts.

“I’d love to work out, I just don’t have the time” becomes “exercising isn’t a priority”

“I would love to eat healthier, but I don’t have time to cook” becomes “eating healthy isn’t a priority”

I” would love to have a date night with my spouse, I just don’t have the time” becomes “my spouse is not a priority”.

When you add “it’s not a priority” you are taking control of your own decisions by adding clarity, condemnation, and encouragement all in 4 short words.

Alter your language and you may just discover what’s most important.  It’s different for everyone and priorities change daily, hourly.  We all have the same amount of time and can’t make more of it, but we can be active about how we use the time we have.

If you are stuck in your head with that one argument that there are not enough hours in the day for ALL of your priorities, I would suggest you adopt the philosophy of author J.D. Roth.

“it’s not what we say is a priority, but what we actually DO that’s a priority”

What are your priorities for 2017?

My priorities for 2017 is to live a BOLD LIFE.

  1. Own my strengths and flaws
  2. Keep clear priorities
  3. Speak up after listening well
  4. Take action with knowledge
  5. Learn from failures
  6. Celebrate wins no matter how small or large

I would love to hear about your plans for 2017.
