Labor Day marks the last of the major three-day weekends of the year. I count five of them: MLK Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, and Labor Day. The rest only happen when the calendar works in our favor with a Friday or Monday holiday.
Labor Day is more than just a long weekend. It was created to honor the contributions of American workers—the people whose effort and persistence keep families, businesses, and communities moving forward. As summer comes to an end, we should all take a moment to pause, reset, and remind ourselves that the true “labor” worth celebrating is not just the work we do, but the life we’re building through it.
Last week, I revisited some of the ideas we’ve been discussing about time-tested wisdom and was reminded again how powerful the right perspective can be. If you’re looking to recharge your mindset this fall, here are three books worth adding to your list:
- Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara – An amazing reminder that hospitality is what life is about. People don’t always remember what you did or said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
- No Worries by Jared Dillian – A practical, sometimes humorous guide to finding calm in a world that constantly pushes us toward stress and anxiety.
- The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom – A refreshing framework for redefining wealth beyond money: time, social, physical, and experiential wealth all play a role in a fulfilling life.
With summer coming to an end, it’s time to look ahead. And because I know you’re curious…
It is:
28 days until the Texas State Fair
41 days until the Dallas Stars’ opening game
63 days until Halloween
90 days until Thanksgiving
118 days until Christmas
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, and don’t forget to celebrate the work you’ve already done this year and the life you’re creating because of it. And of course, enjoy the kickoff of football season.
Just a heads-up, our office will be closed on Monday. We’ll be back on Tuesday, September 2, at 8:00 AM.
