Sunday morning at about 9:00AM Dallas time I will start my journey for the Napa to Sonoma Half Marathon by going down the hill at the Cuvaison Carneros Winery in Napa County to turn left and ascend up Butt-Burner Hill. It is ONLY 3/10’s of a mile but for me, it might be more like running the steps with Rocky. When I get to the top, I will see three things. Off to my left about 20+ miles will be the San Francisco Bay, and for the next 2 miles, the view is incredible. Check out my Instagram account and I will focus on getting a picture of the view and the other two things I will see.
Both of what I will be seeing will be the backsides of Tina Tannery and our friend Alice Montgomery-Rugeley as they move forward with a greater speed than I will.
Now, you may be thinking that I am playing the victim role or sandbagging; neither of those is accurate. Both Tina and Alice have trained harder and should do better.
Maybe you are asking yourself if I am not ready for the run then why am I doing it?
Fitness much like everything in life really doesn’t have an endpoint. You can always be a little faster, a little lighter in your weight or even push yourself harder.
If definitely does have a beginning point. Those beginning points are the keys to success and achieving the accomplishments you desire.
There are skinny runners, you will see them in about a month at the Olympics and there are the rest of us. We come in all shapes and sizes. Tall, short, light and heavy and with everything in between those descriptions you get the modern-day “Weekend Warriors”.
What we all have in common is the desire to push ourselves to prove that we can get better.
Just like the “Weekend Warrior”, the Financial Olympian™ had a beginning place. One day they made the decision to become Financially Fit by following the Financial Olympian Creed™
They took one step at a time and over time they became able to struggle through the financial hills and enjoy the success at the top of the hill.
Weekend Warriors and Financial Olympians™ come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. They don’t wait until they are in perfect shape before they get started.
If that was the case they would have given up by now because perfect shape doesn’t exist.
I have watched this spring, as Tina and Alice have utilized a training program and a coach to improve.
If you are struggling with your Financial Fitness and want to be a Financial Olympian™ then contact any of our team members to schedule an initial no-cost consultation. Much like going to visit with a coach, until you know the key areas that need to be improved you are just dancing in the dark. No one, not even yourself can see the improvement.
Why am I running this weekend?
I want to improve myself and measure my progress.
I challenge you to take on a challenge either physically or financially. Hire a coach or an advisor and measure your results.
If you can measure it, you can improve.
Looking forward to the Wine Festival at the end of the half marathon,
Michael
