The Pumpkin Patch season is here. Lots of pumpkins available for sale and picture taking all over the DFW Metroplex. The Dallas Arboretum has Autumn at the Arboretum with over 90,000 pumpkins. The beauty of the pumpkin patch is enjoyed by all ages and it is a result of the careful planning and scheduling that occurs from planning till harvest and delivery.
What do Pumpkins have to do with investments and financial planning, you might ask?
Proper Planning Preserves Pumpkin Performance
According to All About Pumpkins, it takes from 85 to 125 days to grow depending on the variety. Add the time together for planting, harvesting and delivery about 30 to 45 days and you need to be placing your orders back in March for a mid -September delivery.
For the pumpkin farmer to be successful it requires a plan and the ability to adjust that plan as the weather and mother nature’s natural pests and disease occur on their own timetable.
Without a plan, there will be no carving of the pumpkin or a trip to the pumpkin patch.
Your Personal Proper Planning
The same approach to your personal financial plan is needed.
LendingTree.com says in a recent survey, nationwide, 44 percent of millennials earning between $100,000 and $149,000 admit to living check-to-check, even higher than the 33.5 percent of those earning $50,000 to $75,000.
By gender, 46 percent of millennial women live check-to-check compared to 30 percent for millennial men.
The one common thread for all of these people living paycheck to paycheck is that they have no plan. They are just trying to survive from week to week and they have NO PLAN. They would make terrible pumpkin farmers.
Where are you NOW?
Do you have a plan?
Yes – We applaud you. How often do you update your plan and have you asked a professional to review your plan to ensure that you don’t have any weeds cropping up in your plan?
No Plan?
You have a choice.
I once had this choice explained to me in a speech by Norman Brinker, former CEO of Brinker International. Brinker was speaking to a group of about 1,000 Dallas Business men and women and after nearly 60 minutes, he paused. Then he struck the microphone hard against the lectern creating a LOUD BANG.
He continued and concluded the speech by stating;
“In life, you have a choice, you can either make it happen, watch it happen or if you choose to do neither, then you will wake up on day and wonder.
What the Hell Just Happened!!”
