The Pipes are Bursting

The Pipes are Bursting

A phrase I heard, understand, and often use is  –

You do not know what you do not know until you do.

Never have we had a Winter Storm Warning for ALL 254 Counties in Texas.  That is 171.902 MILLION ACRES of TEXAS.

We could start this at the top and persecute the “Leaders” at ERCOT for the massive failure.  Yet, there have been enough revelations of failure in the news and social media.

Thankfully today, the temperature will get above freezing.

It will be a welcome change to the past week; it is only the beginning of the ongoing disaster for others.

Warren Buffet is quoted with the saying,

“Only when the tide goes out do you discover who’s been swimming naked.”

Today it is going to be,

“Only when the pipes thaw will you find out if they had cracked or burst.”

Go Local on Valentines Day FTW

Go Local on Valentines Day FTW

I cannot believe this is happening; two of my favorite events are happening on the same Day!

Sunday is Valentines’ Day and the Daytona 500.  It is a perfect match for two of the most overhyped days of the year.  If you happen not to be paying attention, my comments are dripping with sarcasm.

We can start with the easy one, the Daytona 500 or “Go Fast turn left,” as Nascar is known.  There was even a Super Bowl commercial with Ryan Newman using the line, “it only turns left.”

The Daytona 500 is the biggest racing event of the year, and it is the first race.  That would be like showing up for your first day at work and retiring.  They even throw a party for you.

January 2021 – Unplugged Scattershooting

January 2021 – Unplugged Scattershooting

In case you have amnesia and wonder what Scattershooting is, I would refer you to my November Blog; otherwise, just read on, and you might realize that Ms. Gorman, my 7th grade English teacher, is grimacing from above at the lack of structure in this blog.   (Does she know what a blog is?)

Buddy

It has been fourteen days now, and I still look for him.  If you have ever had a companion, then you understand entirely.  Tina and I both have had so many people reach out and tell us their story about their “Buddy” story.

One that touched me immensely was just this past Monday night.  Mr. Mackey is older and retired.  He lives two houses away.  On Monday, I came walking by saying hello, and then Mr. Mackey asked, “Where’s Buddy.”  I told him.

Mr. Mackey replied, “He was such a happy dog.”

Thanks to all of you who have written, texted, or called.  It just shows us that Buddy touched many lives.  I know you miss his slobbery hello’s!

2021 Resolutions

2021 Resolutions

The year that seems to last for five years has ended.  Yet, has that changed anything?  No, it is just a date on a calendar that allows us to clean the board and start over.

Many of you made resolutions on December 31 about goals for the new year.

Have you checked back in with them to see if you are on track?.

Statistically, the first day of a goal is the most difficult.  Want to set a goal?  Decide what your goal is and divide it by ten.

Make that your goal.

A speaker and author that I enjoy reading and receiving his weekly blog is Jon Acuff.  I would encourage you to get his weekly emails and see how they fit you and your organization.

Recently, he wrote about “How to Read 100 Books in a Year”.

Did You Invite a Cyber Criminal to Thanksgiving?

Did You Invite a Cyber Criminal to Thanksgiving?

We have all been exposed to some pretty heavy stuff lately—it has been a massive year—but as we head towards Thanksgiving, I thought I would take a break from COVID-19 and election madness to alert you to make you and your family safer and possibly save you up to $25,000.

My recommendation has little to do with your investments; however, it could save you and your family thousands of dollars in today’s cyber connected world.

We are all dealing with working from home and learning from home and exposing yourself to cyberattacks.  Most universities and colleges are closing at Thanksgiving, and the kids are coming home, which only increases the online presence in your house.

Cyberattacks are BIG BUSINESS.

The professionalism and sophisticated approach to cyberattacks are increasing daily.
